We Love The Underdogs.
The Albania Dog Sanctuary, in association with Ross and Friends, the largest enclosed dog park in the UK, is dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs across Albania. It serves as a much-needed lifeline for abused and neglected dogs across the country. Ross and Friends works closely with our team to raise awareness, support fundraising efforts, and help coordinate the safe transition of dogs from Albania to loving homes in the UK.
Together, we offer dogs hope for a happy, healthy, and safe future by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming these vulnerable animals. Our rescue continuously strives to reduce the population of homeless dogs by providing shelter and promoting neutering awareness programmes within our local community.
Our HQ is based in Fier (Albania), our pilot sanctuary is based in Shkoder (Albania), and our sister location for dogs to be transported after socialisation is based in Berkhamsted (United Kingdom).
Our Story
The Albania Dog Sanctuary is the official international rescue arm of Ross & Friends, UK’s largest enclosed dog park, located within Rossway Park Estate in Berkhamsted. From day one, the team at Ross & Friends dreamed of using their expertise, facilities, and network to help dogs beyond the UK. That dream became reality through our private foundation, which runs the Albania Dog Sanctuary.
Ross & Friends and private family donors fully fund every aspect of the sanctuary’s operations, including all staffing, administration, and running costs at our headquarters in Fier and our pilot sanctuary in Shkoder, Albania. This means 100% of every donation you make goes directly to the dogs - food, vet care, medicines, neutering programmes, transport, and essential supplies. No donation is ever used for overheads, just dogs being saved and given a second chance.
By connecting our work in Albania with the heart of Ross & Friends in the UK, we don’t just rescue dogs; we give them a life, surrounded by people who truly understand and love them. Together, we are reducing the number of homeless dogs in Albania through rescue, rehabilitation, and community-neutering awareness programmes, while building a bridge to safe, happy homes.
About Rossway Park Estate
Rossway Park itself is a historic country estate with roots dating back over 400 years to the 17th century. Today, the estate is lovingly managed by its family owners as a place where nature, community, and animals thrive. This is how Ross & Friends, named after Ross, a much-loved white German Shepherd who lives on the estate, came to become the largest enclosed dog park in the UK.

GET INVOLVED
Though rescue dogs had a rough start in life, they are sweet souls who cherish their fresh start. It takes some time and love to help heal their trauma. As a team we are passionate about rehabilitation and give them a new start to life. We can only do this with your help.

OUR PROGRAMS
SHELTER CARE
We provide a safe shelter for dogs to be fed, receive medical attention, rehabilitated and socialised to get them ready for adoption. Our pilot shelter is based in Shkoder, with a sister shelter based in Berkhamsted, United Kingdom.
NEUTERING AWARENESS
Tackling the issue of homeless dogs requires a multipronged approach. Awareness and education on neutering are critical to solving the problem of homeless dogs. Neutering dogs who come into our care is an automatic part of their induction to our shelter, and we are committed to working witih local authorities to put a wider neutering program in place.
